2. Sew the pieced top border/row 1 to the top of the quilt top; press. Sew the remaining three white-and-blue print 6½" x 42" strips together end to end. From the pieced strip, cut one strip, 6½" x 62½". Sew this to the right side of the quilt top; press. Trim the remainder of the pieced strip to 6½" x 55½". Sew this strip to the bottom of the quilt top; press.

ADDING THE APPLIQUÉ

1. Using the patterns on page 41, trace one A, four B, and one C pattern onto the paper side of the fusible web. Roughly cut out each shape. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to fuse the A shape to the wrong side of the brown print rectangle and the B and C shapes to the wrong side of the green tone-on-tone fabric. Cut out the appliqué pieces on the drawn lines.

2. Position the A piece even with the bottom red inner border, centering it on the seam line between the red inner border and the quilt center. Position the B pieces as shown, centering them on the inner red border seam line and overlapping the bottom B piece with the A piece as indicated by the dashed line on the pattern. Position the C piece at the top. Adjust as necessary and fuse, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
